Storage and handling tips
After you have finished welding the gas, always have at least 20 feet between you and the gas and oxygen cylinder cylinders. Or, split them into true firewalls.
- Cylinders can easily catch fire; keep flammable and combustible materials away from the cylinder.
- Keep the cylinder away from bodily injury, heat and tampering.
- Always keep the cylinder in the upright position. If possible, chain them to prevent them from falling.
- Make sure the cylinder’s valves are closed before moving.
- A cap or regulator should be placed for protection.
- Rotate the cylinders to the bottom edge to move them from one place to another. Don’t pull it off
- When moving, try to minimize the movement of the cylinder as much as possible.
General Gas Welding Safety Tips
- To lift a gas cylinder, use the equipment designed to lift it. Do not use any other tool to lift it.
- Check the torches and clean them with the right tools.
- Blow-back protection flashlights should be used when welding.
- Always keep an eye on the equipment and ensure any leakage on all connections. This can be done using a valid leak-test solution.
- Inspect the hose for leaks and blistering.
- Replace the bad guys at regular intervals.
- Place fire extinguishers at welding sites readily available.
- Keep hose and cylinders away from sparks, flames, and hot metal as sparks form holes in them.
- Always use flint lighter to ignite the flame in the welder.
- Stay open at the edge while opening the cylinder valve.
- Whenever possible, use two-stage regulators.
- When using a single-phase regulator, open the cylinder valve very slowly. This speeds up regulators at higher pressures than blasts.
- When using a single-phase regulator, simply open the acetylene cylinder valve on a 1/4 to 3/4 turn.
- Place the wrench. By doing this, you can quickly close the cylinder in any emergency.
- First open cecetylene and lighten it. Then open and adjust the oxygen in a neutral flame.
When turning off the flashlight, you must first turn off the acetylene torch valve. You can hear the pops as oxygen comes out of the flame, but the flame will not ignite the acetylene line.
When you’re done:
- Close the cylinder valve.
- Cleared the lines for regulatory pressure.
- Carefully coil hoses.
- Reinstall the tool.
