Sewing curtains isn’t the most natural thing in the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s the hardest. With proper instruction and the right tools, you can achieve a fantastic look and excellent value for money. Here are some tips on how to sew curtains from curtains in Dubai.
Measure your curtains
If you’re using cardboard, measure the length from side to side. The longer, the longer your curtains will be, and the more time will be needed to sew. Even if you’ve spent a couple of years sewing curtains then make sure you do your measurements first.
Just because it’s a big project doesn’t mean that everybody in your house will be happy to have it done. To ensure that you get a group of eyes on the project, ask the neighbours and family members to lend a helping hand.
Essential accessories for your curtain
First, you need to have some necessary sewing skills to get started. Next, you need to have the right materials and accessories, like curtains and wall hangings.
The curtain rod can be purchased from your local hardware store, but may not always be the best material for the job.
If you are worried that your windows were broken, make sure you purchase curtains made from heavy-duty material that has treated to resist the light. If you want a more simplistic design, you can use pleated drapes or a simple patterned curtain rod.
Make your curtains will not easily come off
Buttonholes can be challenging to prevent, so you need to make sure your curtains will not easily come off. There are two choices – first, you can use Velcro fasteners and then you can use a pull string to close them. Using the Velcro type of cables will usually leave the curtain hanging loose so that the sun can get through, but if the window stays closed, the problem will go away.
An easy solution is to leave the curtain buttoned until you are ready to remove it. This way, you will not have to worry about where the button came from.
Install your curtain at right place
Make sure you place the most extensive fabric panels against the wall. You will want to put those panels that are most likely to be stained and have a high window sill.
Smaller panels placed near the window sill will have less of a chance of becoming stained and could be possible to move later.
Make sure that the top or front of the curtain rests over the widest windowsill possible. You can use a carpet in between the curtain and the window if you want but make sure the curtain hangs the correct height to avoid wrinkles. Check carefully before cutting the ties.
Sketch your curtain before buying
It’s often a good idea to have the curtains drawn when it’s raining, especially in a high traffic area such as a home. It keeps the sun off the top of the curtain and keeps a fresh breeze blowing on the curtains instead of on your windows. When there is light outside, make sure the curtain stays closed. Leaving it open means you will have no protection from the sun and will probably get it dirty quickly.
Adjust your tension of curtains with wall
If you are working on a fixed curtain, make sure you stand on something firm so you can adjust the pressure of the curtain when you are finished.
In most cases, it’s a good idea to use pins or pliers to loosen the curtains once they secured to the wall.
Use of string to get close your curtains
If you plan to use the line to close your curtains, try using a double-strand rather than a single strand, so that the curtain will stay closed when it is entirely open. If you find this difficult, you can use both strands on the top of the curtain and only the bottom strand on the bottom side of the curtain. Then you can switch it all around without any problem.
High up the window for long length
If you are working with a split curtain, you should position it so that it is higher up on the window. The strings should run the entire length of the curtain.
Finally, check the curtain once it’s closed to make sure that the cords are loose and the buttons unbuttoned. If they are not free, the coverings may not be so attractive. However, if the cord holes are loose, you can tighten them using a variety of tools from fingernails to screws.
