Six Things to Do Before Labor Day and Summer’s End

Six Things to Do Before Labor Day and Summer's End

Summer offers the opportunity to fully embrace the outdoors. Longer hours of sunlight seem to generate a heightened sense of urgency to feel the wind against your skin. After being sequestered indoors you and your crew crave the unknown adventure of new places or a quick visit to favorite destinations that you infrequently have time to explore.  There is a palpable urge to experience unique vistas, epic and vibrant waterfalls, and the feeling of hot sand between bare toes. Flip flops are the shoes of summer.

Is there a feeling of vulnerability as great as when five-foot waves pull at your legs, and urge you to become submerged in the rushing foam, and bright blue waters of the closest lake, river pool or ocean?  As wondrous as these gifts from nature and human innovation are, time is fleeting. The span of minutes from Memorial Day to Labor Day seem to streak by in what feels like a nano-second.  Don’t waste a moment of this blissful time.

Curate a Summer Go-Time List of Epic Events and Take Along a Stash

Choose Activities that you and your loved ones will find fascinating. As restrictions lift and many are vaccinated, it is possible to include extended family and close friends to share the joy of both structured and spontaneous fun. Let each member of your crew share their desires for everything from destinations to those epic culinary treats like barbequed anything and melty ice cream treats with dripping chocolate.

Add to your all-important prep-work the take-along stash that make these activities a safe success, like:

  • A first aid kit
  • Natural sunscreen, SPF-50 (mostly zinc)
  • Sunglasses, googles,
  • Extra water in reusable containers
  • UV hats and UV swimwear
  • Healthy snacks (protein bars, almonds, apples
  • Phone charger and holder
  • Flashlight and matches
  • Small trash receptacle
  • A cooler
  • Coins for toll roads
  • Camera
  • Natural bug repellent

Before you answer the beckoning call of the wild, its vastly important to have your vehicle serviced, if needed, and remember to review your auto insurance. Is it a full coverage plan? Are you paying to much for too little? Check with a trusted provider like Freeway Car Insurance which has been keeping families road-ready and safe for years.

Summer’s Epic Events for Your Crew

Whether your crew love to paddle, pedal, jog, or float, getting everyone out into nature is a gift of inestimable value. Put a camera in the hands of your child and let them capture the wonder of their outdoor surrounds. Wherever you go their view of the landscape will be joyful and unique.

This curated list offers activities that fully engage the senses for feelings of freedom, giggle inducing laughter, spontaneous adventure and an opportunity to soak in the wonders of sunlight and nature.

This Go -Time List includes:

  1. A Whole Day of Boating – Get out on a favorite lake with swimming, diving, favorite foods, music, family and friends.  Imagine all the feels, smells, sensations, and freedom of these moments.
  2. Dinosaur Ridge Trip to Colorado – Prepare to see the actual fossils, bones and huge footprints of these huge beasts that lived more than 66 million years before humans inhabited the planet. Dinosaur fans, which most kids are, crave a visit to one of the ten states in the U.S.A. that have these incredible touchable artifacts to enjoy. The trails, wildlife and forests are beautiful and serene in these destinations.
  3. 3. White Water Rafting – Adventure seekers find the perfect activity for an adrenaline rush when being thrust down the raging river rapids in an inflatable boat. Teens and adults love this “forces of nature experience”. It’s an upper body and core workout like nothing you have ever tried.
  4. Hot Air Balloon Rides – These hot spots are in Napa Valley California, or Albuquerque, New Mexico, at sunrise or sunset, offering views on the landscape that are magical. The feeling of floating is both serene and surreal. This quiet and contemplative experience is unique and stimulates family bonding.
  5. 5. Horseback Riding at Malibu Lagoon State Beach, in California. Riding is an amazing hobby/sport.  Riding on the beach with a wonderful horse that you’ve bonded with is one of the purest forms of enjoyment anyone could experience. Horses are sensitive loving and people pleasing. Riding is a gift you give yourself when it becomes a hobby for life.
  6. Attending an Outdoor Concert Under the Stars – There are moments in summer which you experience once but remember always. An outdoor concert of music that is moving and relatable held at night under a blue/black sky full of stars, with an audience hanging on every melodic note, is a priceless memory.

The Summers Rush By – The Activities Leave Magical Memories

The lasting daylight, balmy breezes, top-down weather, twinkling fireflies, and endless possibilities for fun that make up a summer day and night leave a handprint on the heart of those who participate.  Whether you travel, or find wonder in the backyard barbeque, slip and slide, and water balloon fights, something magnificent happens. Don’t miss out. Life is short.
