How To Succeed at Interviews

How To Succeed at Interviews

Landing a job can be incredibly stressful. Opportunities are hard to come by, and when you find something that is right for you, you then have to fight off the competition. So, what exactly do you need to do to nail that job that you deserve?

Be Open

Being open about why you want the job and what you will bring to the role will ensure that potential employers see you in the best light. If you are open with your intentions from the start, you are honest, and honesty is what employers truly value.

Tailor Your Approach

No two jobs are the same, and neither is the interview process that you will go through. So treat each interview as if it is your first and your last.  From an interview at Brown and Crouppen Law Firm to an interview at a local accountancy firm, you need to approach each interview you attend differently.

Take Your Time

Unless you are answering time-limited questions, it is important that you take your time when answering any question that is given to you. To buy a bit more time, feel free to repeat the question. Repeating the question will give you a bit more thinking time. Answering questions with well-thought-out answers is better than just rushing and answering everything as quickly as you can. If you are speaking quickly because you are nervous, try focusing on your breathing. Take a deep breath and gain your composure.

Do Your Research

Knowing a bit of background about the company or organization you are going to potentially work for is always good. You will no doubt be asked questions about the company, so get ahead of the game and do some background research. Find out exactly what they do, where they sell, and what their plans are for the future. Answering potential employers’ questions with well-thought-out responses could effectively be the difference between landing the job and not. Spend a bit of time before your interview brushing up on the company you are interviewing for.

Look the Part

What you wear to an interview says a lot about you and your suitability for the position. Tailor your outfit for the interview you are attending. If you are in doubt as to what to wear, then try and stay as conservative as possible. Quite a lot of employers are still quite traditional in what they want employers to wear, so bear this in mind. You have plenty of time outside of work to express your personality and individuality, so if you feel this is putting employers off, don’t be afraid to tone it down a bit.

After an interview has finished, you will either get the job or you will not. If you do not get the job, don’t lose sight of your dreams, instead, take the opportunity to seek feedback from an interview and focus on improving your techniques so that next time around, you can land that job.
